Think Green Thursday #9

Michele and Gina are bringing us Think Green Thursday once again. Please join in and tell us your thoughts on our environment.

OK. One more toon:

I can't seem to stop myself from tooning. Even when it isn't very good. You can click to enlarge, of course. And yes, I do know the answer to my question is the almighty dollar.

I am very interested in the work of the organization known as "we". They have tried before and are trying again to get their videos on TV. They have appeared in the past, but these are sponsored by public contributions. They don't have the money behind them that the big oil and gas corporations do. Their videos don't stay on very long. They are also brief, low budget videos - but good.

If you have interest in seeing a change to a clean energy economy, you can view the current video and read about it, and perhaps contribute $15 or so. Go to:
http//www.RepowerAmerica.org/chipin15 - or just go to YouTube if you want to see others, including those from we and from Al Gore and several others. Just put in "Repower America". They are all there.

We Can Solve It

Just for Fun

My daughter tells me she is going to San Francisco to visit a friend this weekend. She also hopes that they will get to see the Bicycle Powered Music Festival while they are there. I'd never heard of this, but it sounds like fun. I went to their site, and I really like it.

If you'd like to investigate, it's at bicyclemusicfestival.com. You can click on various links there, including a couple of videos of performances. Just for fun.

Insomnia

Having been an insomniac most of my life, I often find myself at the computer desk at 2: or 3: in the morning. I guess, like most people, the little men who live in my computer like to sleep at that hour. Things go very slowly. But it is really frustrating to me to click on that icon on my desktop and get the message, "Address not found" and then "Firefox cannot find a server for yahoo.com. Try again later."

When that happens I can't get to my blog, nor anyone else's. Can't check my email. Can't put pictures on flickr. Can't toon. Can't even play mah jongg or solitaire. Might as well go back to bed. And TV at that hour is pretty pathetic.
Mostly infomercials.

I don't really mind if I can't sleep, now that I'm retired. Don't have to get up early unless I feel like it. But when it happens I usually feel kind of dopey in the morning for a little while. Slow to start. That's the way I feel this morning. If I am able to play on the computer for a while in the wee hours, I just keep going into the morning, and take a nap later.

So this morning I am alternately typing on this post, and staring out the front door at the gas line guys. They did turn my mail box back the way it should be, by the way, although it seems to be about three inches higher out of the ground than it was. Now apparently they are repairing - more or less - what damage they did yesterday, all along the street. They told us yesterday that they would replace grass and the ends of driveways, and whatever else was destroyed. If that is what they're doing now, there must be a heck of a lot to do up on the corner, because they've been working on it for an hour. Right now they seem to be on a break. They take a lot of those.

We had no rain yesterday! Today looks cloudy, and they tell us there is more coming. Things are squishy.

Gas Lines

This is the morning they will definitely be passing my house. As I write this, it is only 7:30, and I hear them starting now. I don't have to leave the house until almost 9: How come they are starting so early today? And will they give me a chance to get out of my drive? - Well, they will, because I will make a heck of a noise about it if they don't.

At the moment, the only good thing about this whole deal is that I took some pictures of their big equipment to send to my four year old grandson, and he'll be thrilled about it. I'm glad someone will be happy.

They took out my mailbox and turned it backwards to make room for their machine.

Noisy Morning

They've reached our block. The natural gas line pipes being installed in our area are about to go down our street. I doubt anyone on our block will be going through the expensive process of the hook up, but they are coming anyway. They have reached a point almost at my house.

Knowing how inconsiderate they have been so far, I have no faith that they will notify anyone to move their cars out of their driveways, so I parked mine on the street. They would have to come ask me to move it if they are getting down this far. If they don't get this far by tomorrow morning, I would be able to just drive away. I have a doctor's appointment then, or I wouldn't have bothered. But then I had a chance to speak with them, and they assured me that when they dig it will be accomplished "instantly", to quote them. I will have no trouble.

Well, frankly I'll believe that when I see it, after what I have seen of them so far, but I moved my car back into the drive, and I'm hoping for the best.

In any case, I'm sure the street will be blocked to any through traffic for a day or so. I'll content myself with staying home, except for that appointment.

Other than that "excitement", nothing much going on around here. I've found a critter or two to photograph. And there's the garden coming along very well now. That's about it.

The things I have in planters on the deck are pretty well saturated. We've had so much rain! I've lost a few things. Two of my planters had no drainage holes, and I was relying on rocks and shells at the bottom for that. Didn't work. Not with all the water that we've had. Lisa came yesterday with her handy little drill, and put some drainage holes in for me. Thank you, Lisa!

Flags

the President is urging us to keep flying the flag at least all of this week. So here are a few more.

Some tiny ones in a planter.

Along Route 109 in Cape May City near the harbor. I think they are rather impressive.

And another that I really like, going into Cape May, not far from the Yacht Club.
