Hummer

I am so happy that my little point and shoot camera has a five times zoom. I can sit in my recliner and watch the hummingbird feeder outside of the front door, across the room, and still take this picture. Not that it's really sharp and wonderful, but it's so much better than I could have managed with my old camera. Guess it doesn't take much to make me happy.


I've always wanted a Nikon. Even though it's only a little Coolpix, it's SO much better!


This little lady seems to have decided that this feeder is all hers.
I don't think she is the same one who claimed it last year. I have also had visits from a male, but not while she is around. I have another feeder at the foot of the steps, but it is out of sight from my chair, where I spend a lot of time.

Thinking Green

Yes, I am still trying to think green, and my "green" is still the blue of the ocean.


The horrendous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has brought disaster to the residents - human and otherwise - of the area. It has destroyed the economy, taken away the livelihood of so many families, and caused dreadful suffering and death of wildlife as well as humans. Dr. Barbara Block, research scientist with the Tuna Research and Conservation Center, has pointed out that the Gulf is America's greatest fisheries nursery. The bluefin tuna was already in serious trouble before the spill.


The particular spot where the spill occurred is also the nesting area for endangered sea turtles.


Our President recently encouraged further development of off-shore drilling for oil. I believe this was a serious mistake on his part. I now believe the terrible "accident", if you care to call it that, is proof of this mistake. I urge everyone to make him aware of this in no uncertain terms. There are other sources of energy. And there is such a thing as restraint of indulgence and greed and gratification of our every desire regardless of consequences.

Summer Has Definitely Arrived

Oh yes. It is here. And with it the humidity I could really do without. But I'm not planning anything very ambitious. I expect I will be spending most of this summer of 2010 indoors, like it or not.


All three of my larger azalea bushes have decided to catch up to one another. There for a while it looked like the white one might be finished blooming before the pink started. Then one pink was way ahead of the other. But this morning I looked down from my top step to see this.



And other good news is this. I don't expect that I will be exploring the whole garden at one time this year. And I will definitely have to do any exploring at all on days with very low humidity. But I always feel better once I have seen this sign go up.



Then there's the bad news. I understand from a friend (I do not do Face Book) that the "Social Network" now has a problem with a hate group, spewing their nonsense and actually praying for the death of the President. I was happy to hear from my friend that my oldest daughter had a few things to say about this, and signed a petition on Face Book itself to abolish this from the site. (I knew we must have done something right in raising those kids. They all turned out pretty good.)

Well, I think I will close for today and go put on the a/c and find something cool to eat for supper. Today may even call for ice cream for dessert.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Since April 30 was Arbor Day, tree shadows seem to be the order of the day. These are from a drive by the lake in Cape May Point.

And then there's this. First of the season. Not a terrific picture, but nice and shadowy.
