Camera Critters #18

The critters I want to show you this week are going to freak out my friend, Lisa.

The first is one I ran into at Leaming's Run Gardens a while back. I was walking along the path near the gazebo when I heard someone calling to me. An elderly couple had gone down this path earlier, crossed a little bridge across the stream, and were calling from the other side. They wanted to warn me "Be careful!" They had seen a snake crawling onto the bridge. That's all they had to tell me. I hurried right over there to see it, much to their dismay. And there it was, sunning itself on the railing. Posed very nicely for me. I think it's a hognose.

The second one came indoors to get warm. Same friend, Lisa, and I used to work together. She called me on the phone while I was at lunch. Back I went. Lisa was up on a counter. Snake was curled happily in the hallway. (It doesn't really have two heads. It just looks that way because of the pattern in the carpet.)

Misty Dawn is our host at Camera Critters. Thanks to her you will find many other pictures - most of them much more cuddly than these - at this site.

  3. I like your snake photos. Good captures for Camera Critters. Photographs of snakes I tolerate well; live snakes -- I do not tolerate well. LOL

  4. I seldom see a snake, and when I do it is often just a little harmless garden or garter snake.

This guy in your picture looks like it might be a little more bigger than my comfort level is.

  11. Hilarious! I'd want a closer look too, depending on the species that is. I read somewhere that hognose snakes roll over a play dead if harrassed. What's to be scared of!?!

  21. Great captures. I don't mind snakes all that much but I also don't want to get to close to one either. I'm content with them in their space and me in mine. They just move a bit to stealthly for me.

  22. I'm with Lisa!

A snake is one thing I haven't been able to enjoy in my entire life.

  24. That is a bit different. Snakes have a bad press. We just have to respect them.

  25. I'm with Lisa! I wouldn't have been able to take my eyes of those snakes long enough to get the camera out! The lilies on my header came up volunteer in a weed patch out back of the garage. I was out walking after a rainstorm and found them. It was a nice surprise.
