When my family came to visit this summer, we enjoyed an afternoon at the Wetlands Institute. Among many other things we saw there, we visited Lois, happily swimming in her aquarium. Lois was named for the kind lady who donated her to the Institute. Here she is.

Here I am, doing what probably most people do when they visit her - putting my hand on the glass to attract her.

Here is my son-in-law, hamming it up with Lois.

And here is my grandson, looking as if he isn't too sure what to make of her.

If you'd like to see lots more critters, wild or domestic, please visit Misty at the Camera Critters site, here.
Looks like Lois is quite friendly.
ReplyDeleteShe looks very flexible.
I've heard that octopi are some of the most intelligent critters on the planet, so I'm sure Lois is responding, thinking, "Now there are three nice-looking humans" (I quite agree!) I love how, in the first shot, she's making a heart with one arm.
ReplyDeleteand do you know how delicious they are??? (we love them in the summer in greece)
ReplyDeleteLois is lovely but I'm not sure I'd want an octopus named after me. LOL
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots Lois looks pretty big.Very good pictures.
ReplyDeleteThis is something scary yet not scary actually. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy swimming to Lois.
Hi! Lois is a cutie. I think there maybe something between Mike and her. Just look at the way he is looking at her. Lisa
ReplyDeleteLook at the size of that thing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by mine :)
wow, look at that!! they are always fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. Lois is beautiful, as beauty in an octopus might be described. Her color is lovely. She doesn't seem to be the least bit offput by the presence of creatures larger than herself.
ReplyDeleteLois is awesome! I love the look on your grandson's face. hehe
ReplyDeleteGreat photo! We don't see critters like Lois very much, so it's pretty exciting. Thanks!
And thanks for visiting me!
What a neat post . is the wetlands institute out at the lighthouse in cape may?

Your photos are always great! And I love Lois! I sometimes hate to see animals confined, but on the other hand, I like knowing they are safe and will be around for others to enjoy. We are losing so many wonderful animals each day and that is another sad statement about the world today.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing creature Lois is. I wonder what goes on in that beautiful mind.
ReplyDeleteBobbie: What a cool little octopus.
ReplyDeleteBobbie,
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave! I am so proud of you for touching it! I think that octopus (not sure how to make this a plural...octopusi (lol)...) are such interesting creatures and I could sit and watch them for hours, so I'm especially glad that were lucky enough to see Lois!
I have heard that they can get out of their tanks and move to other ones! Octopi are such fascinating creatures I think. I found a tiny one in a tidal pool once a number of years ago! You got some fun pictures to remember Lois by!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!

ReplyDeleteLois is lovely but the most sweetest of all is your little grandson. Wonderful family pictures.

ReplyDeleteLois is very cool thing to see. Very nice pictures of her.
ReplyDeleteHandsome critters, Bobbie, especially you, your son-in-law and your grandson!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun post! Thank you for your advice on my blog about Hondas. We are leaning that way...
ReplyDeleteI hav met up with them in the wild when diving in the Med. They are fascinating and very intelligent. People don't expect that of molluscs.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I could touch it. Too rubbery. Great set of unusual images.
ReplyDeleteAfter having typed the word "cute" for all critters I have seen so far, here I can type that she is a rather strange critter, lol !
ReplyDeleteThat octopus is quite the critter... I bet it gives very good hugs!
ReplyDeleteYour son-in-law is quite the character...
your grandson is adorable!!
Great post.
