Lighthouse cruises go out from Cape May, New Jersey into the Delaware Bay during the summer months. I have been fortunate enough to take two of these cruises in past years. The combination of sky and water is so beautiful, and the lighthouses out there add color and interest. This one is called Elbow at Crossledge.
Here is what remains of one from earlier times, called Crossledge.
And this one is Ship John Shoal.
This one is known as Miah Maull.
The black and white one is Fourteen Foot Bank.
And this is called Brandywine Shoal.

I have seen similar lighthouses in the Pacific near islands and around Japan but never anywhere else. They always seemed lonesome places to me and sometimes were swarming with birds.
Your photographs of those you posted are very good.
The second and last one are the best. In my humble opinion, of course!

These are all beautiful lighthouses and to think that people once lived in them? These are so appropiate for sky watch as the lighthouses are watches themselves. Lovely photos. Thanks for having visited mine.

I like that last one the best. I love lighthouses - where I grew up we had a few. My favorite one sits on an island that is now eroding (thanks to a few hurricane seasons too many) and it's in danger of falling into the water. Somehow, this makes me like it more - it's sort of rusty and weathered.
Oh, and PS - I'm also in the east coast time zone!

Great shot of lighthouses! We live along Lake Michigan and have a lighthouse also. In fact, we were called the Lighthouse District.

These are beautiful pictures! There is so much history and character there.
I have never seen a light house in person.
But those are different then what I seen in picture before.
I loved the photos and always have wondered about the type of people who could man those old ones. Not I.

Great photos. We took our grandson to visit the Split Rock lighthouse in northern Mn. and he still talks about it today. I love them but the do sound so mournful
bobbie, I'm so glad you visited at my blog. Your Skywatch photos of lighthouses are wonderful. I love lighthouses and when my husband and I several years ago went on a vacation through the Northeastern states we stopped at every lighthouse we could. This trip out of Cape May sounds marvelous. I'll have to look into it! :D
