SKY WATCH

I have visited South Cape Meadows hundreds of times over the
past thirty years. Sadly, it is no longer what it used to be, but I have many photographs to remind me of what it once was. In this picture, taken a few years ago at sunset, the Cape May Lighthouse can be seen on the distant horizon.

Please take time to view the many other pictures entered in Sky Watch Friday from countries all over our world. You will find the list at Wigger's World, with our host, Tom.

In answer to some questions in comments:
Thanks to all of you,
South Cape Meadows, where this picture was taken, was always a beautiful natural area until about a year ago when the land owner, Nature Conservancy decided to "improve" it. They went to work with a federal grant I understand. It is now nice and neat with clean, straight paths and bridges, mowed grass, etc, and they now charge a fee to go in. So far as I'm concerned, it's ruined, although the birds are starting to find their way back. I do also hear that the township has an easement across the property, to the water, so I'm hoping that in the future we may be able to reclaim at least a little of what we once had.

I thought I was here and left a message but don't see it. So, I probably said something like this is a nice photo for SWF. If I already left it, just delete this one. Thanks.

The darkness in your photo suggests to me a homecoming or the the time to be at home after the end of day. I get the same feeling from this sort of photo perhaps somewhat that Robert Frost maybe experienced when 'he stopped in the woods on a snowy day', but then hurried on continuing homeward. Even though night is near in your photo, the colours are still very beautiful.

Thanks for having visited my sky watch post today.

the sky is one of the few artistic things we cannot meddle with - we have to wait until it surprises us and then snap it if we can

Bobbie, this is an excellent photo. Why has this area changed so much? It is beautiful in your photo. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

bobbie, I am a member of the Nature Conservency and I thought their goal was to preserve wild places, not destroy them! So sorry to hear that is what happened. So sorry about the fees! If they didn't preserve the property though, what would have happened to it? Would it have been bought and developed? Who owned it before they did? Too bad the township couldn't have bought it and made it a town Nature Park.
