Grade School Crushes

I'm sure we've all been through The Crush. The most universally recognized scenario is that I love him, but he doesn't love me, he loves someone else, but they don't love him, etc., etc.

There was a boy who had a crush on me. As a matter of fact, there was more than one, but Ronald chose to act on it. Being a little boy, he did this by teasing me and chasing me in the playground. When we had to learn square dancing, he would swing me around with my feet off the ground. I wouldn't have minded that so much except that when he let go, he really let go and I went flying. When the infamous Miss H. declared that we had a project in which we had to pair off, boy-girl, Ronald immediately announced that he and I would pair off. This was accomplished by him coming over to my house, me doing the project, and Ronald spending his time walking around my room, handling everything I didn't want him to touch, and using his supply of rubber erasers to bomb my goldfish. He managed to kill one of them.

All through grade school I had a crush on Harry. Harry never looked in my direction. Harry was taller than any of the other boys. He had an athletic build, and he was really good looking. When we were in the sixth grade I had one very, very good day. We were all outside for P.E. We were standing in a circle, playing dodge ball. I just happened, accidentally on purpose, to be standing next to Harry. When the teacher blew the whistle to end the game, the ball came to Harry. He held it high, and threw it at the ground with all his strength, which was considerable. It flew up, right into my middle, knocked the breath out of me, and I sat down hard. Harry finally looked at me! As a matter of fact, what he had done scared him half to death. He picked me up in his arms and carried me into the nurse's office. Harry carried me in his arms! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! Of course, when he found out I was alright, he promptly walked away and continued to ignore me, but my day... No! My whole sixth grade year, was made.

Crushes continued into Jr. and Sr. High School, but they were full of t
een-age angst. I'd rather remember those in grade school. They were just silly, giggly ones, and no tears were shed.

.......................................................

This has absolutely nothing to do with this post.

My daughter, Rita. took it. I thought it was so appropriate to the season.

I hope you like it

Here's one from daughter, Kitty. Just got it this morning through Flickr.

It was taken at
Earthbound Farms Organic Farmstand.

I had Arhtur in 5th grade! He was a bit odd but sweet.

My hearbreaker of grammar school was Joey. He didn't know I existed until he needed someone to write his 6th grade report.

Found you through shadow shot sunday. I was late in posting my shot.

I really like your bird shot in the shadow. Wow! That was good timing. And on this post, since I am a cat lover, the black cat is my favorite.

Your Ronald crush story is cute. And I could feel the excitement reading your Harry story!

Ah yes. The crushes. I remember in high school, my mom said I had a phone call from Andy. Andy was one of the most handsome boys in school. I got on the phone and started talking with him. He had no idea that I wasn't his real girlfriend. My heart was pounding the whole time, but I couldn't let him think that I was his real girlfriend. We had a good laugh about it, but he promptly ignored me in school. Talk about crushed.

Very nice pictures. I can see that your daughter's take after you in photography. Lisa

Thanks for your visit to It Strikes

your story about crushes took me back a few years.

I became the official score keeper for our local girls' team between the ages of 12 - 14, very likely because Suzie S. and Diane M. (both two years older than me) were on the team.

I told Suzie and her Mom about my crush at a school reunion a few years ago (40 years later) and we had a great laugh. No one got hurt and I became a darn good score keeper.

Cheers, Bobbie

PS great picture of the pumpkins. I'll show it to grandson Ollie when he arrives today (we babysit).

Loved the pumpkins and the black cat picture. That black cat is so appropriate right now. Ronald sounds like he was all boy killing one of your fish with an eraser. I was such a tomboy myself in school I don't remember any boyfriends in the lower grades but when I got older I would worship some of them from afar. I can just imagine you with that boy carrying you to the nurses station.

You've got some great orange and black going there - really cute little cat. And grade school crushes, what a rite of passage those are! I had a crush on one of the most popular (and therefore unattainable) boys in my class, and was content to keep it secret til I shared it with my so-called best girlfriend, who promptly outed me to him. He was, of course, totaly indifferent. I learned more about friendship than puppy love from that episode!

Did I tell you the glue on my chair story .. how mom told me the buy who put the glue there did it so I would notice him because he liked me? My response was: I wish he didnt like me so much.

Other than that there were no other crushes I was aware of ... I did have a crush in Jr High on a friend's older brother's friend...sigh he was sooo cute ... and he so totally ignored me.

Great Halloween pictures.
Since I was in an all girl's school the only crush I had was the paper boy.
It lasted for a few years and then he moved away.
Sigh!!!!

Bobbie, your photos are lovely, especially the cat with such beautiful surroundings!

I also had childish crushes. I saw one of them at our high school reunion this summer. I had also gone to 4-5-6th grade with him and his twin. He had no memory of me in grade school, but his twin did (and very well). I was surprised at that, since I thought neither of them knoew I existed.

I love these memories. Reminded me of a few young ladies I used to know.
