IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT

Wind howled and rain crashed against the windows. Thunder rumbled continuously, lightning lit up the room, and fire sirens wailed. Under these conditions, I know the TV should have been turned off. But in the midst of the pledge drive for PBS, there was a Pete Seeger special. How could I not watch that, no matter what the risk?

I love folk music - and bluegrass - and good old time country music. Old time - not the pseudo-country stuff they try to foist off on us today, sung by youngsters who haven't a clue what it's all about. (I know - I know. I'm a crabby old lady. Well, I guess I'm just a Pennsylvania hillbilly after all. Can't help it if I got here by way of Massapequa, New York. I'm still a country girl at heart.)

Pete Seeger was interrupted a little more than an hour into the program, when I lost the satellite signal, but at least it happened at an opportune moment, just as they were pausing to ask us to help fund PBS. I do hope you were able to do that, and that you had the opportunity to hear Pete's story. What a man!

To every thing - Turn! Turn! Turn!

There is a season - Turn! Turn! Turn!

And a time to every purpose under Heaven.

I've always love to sing along with that one, trying to harmonize...alone..in the car of course.

We had a pretty bad night as well and it is still raining today. My grass is about six inches high, and veggies are still in the garage waiting to make there way to the garden. Weird weather.
You previous post was right on the money. I heard a lady the other day say she was voting for Hillary to "make history". To each their own, but that seems like a poor reason to vote for anoyone to be President.

We've had quite a few storms also. What's up with this weather anyway? I missed the the program on PBS, would have liked to see it.

I'll check out PBS. They often repeat.

We had a bad night too but never lost power which is unusual for us.

I was thinking of you since they kept saying it was worse further south.

Great post. I like folk music, too. Actually, I like most music. I kept hearing about the bad weather south of us. We were lucky with just some wind and rain. Nothing too bad.

Pete Seeger did more than almost anybody to make the 60's folk revival happen in the US. A complete legend. I have some nice live albums he made in the 60's and his enthusiasm is incredible. Mind you, he did make a big mistake when he turned against Dylan for going 'electric' at Newport in '65 but I'll forgive him that one! ;)

I struggle about what to call this type of music and I write about it! If I say 'country' to my friends they immediatly think Big and Rich.
I'll have to check out the PBS special.

I like Seeger. I didn't catch the show - but we got a bit of stormy weather as well.

Ever since, it's been hot hot hot ... but today we got a nice reprieve.
