I suppose I should have figured it out for myself. After all, the same sort of thing happens with our cordless phones and computers.
Yesterday I had to call the satellite TV company. I was going a little crazy with my DVR. It doesn't obey my commands. It starts recording programs I never told it to, and never even watch. So, what I learned was that it is possible for someone else in the neighborhood to set their DVR to record a show, and have it recorded by my DVR. And yes, I am told, the problem can be eliminated by re-addressing my remote. I sure hope so. I'm tired of my space being used up so fast, and having to keep deleting programs all the time.
Modern technology can be a blessing, but it can also be infuriating at times. Not that TV watching is all that necessary an occupation, but it is something most of us do every day, at least a little.
(Oh yes, I do watch the quirky Arrested Development sometimes, but I really don't need it recorded six or eight times a week)
Satellite TV is great. There are a lot of features I love about it. And I don't lose service all the time as I did with cable. But do we really need ALL those channels? I know I don't. I only watch about a dozen of them most of the time. But I do really enjoy having 3 - count 'em - 3 different PBS channels. I enjoy the foreign language channels too, even those I don't understand. And I like getting other slants on news stories.

I didnt know that .. but at one point we had two TimeWarner cable boxes in the livingroom and when you changed the channel on one, it switched the other as well .. ToonMan had to rig a cover so the second box didnt 'see' the beam from the remote...
I like the idea of re-addressing the remote
"dear remote ..." ;)
I'm not very good with technology so I hear your pain.
I also must admit, I am a bit envious of your three PBS channnels!
Hi Bobbie. Modern technology? We seem to have to take the good with the bad. As for TV. We have tons of channels and very, very often there is absolutely nothing worth watching. It would no exaggeration to say this is the case 95% of the time.
I didn't know that. We have cable and still the DVR doesn't alway behave....I will go to your daughter's blog Bobbie....Michelle
