Where Did It Go?

Here is an odd development. I have kept a counter on my sidebar, showing the body count of U.S. soldiers in Iraq. The counter came from the site: fixiraq.com. Suddenly, this morning, there is no counter there. I went to Scroogle, and they still list the site along with many others, but when I go to their listed sites, it just tells me there is no such site. What has happened? Why has the counter gone? Does anyone know the answer?

I do know that at last count, there had been 4115 of our young men and women killed in Iraq so far. It's a sad thing to have to keep track of, but I think it is also an important piece of information for all of us to have.

icasualties.org will tell you the numbers of U.S. and Iraqi dead, and will also give the names of those killed, date of death, and under what circumstances they died.

I found this site:

http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/

Is that helpful for you?

Thanks, bear naked, but that one gives only the Iraqi estimated death total. - Also an important concern of course. I have found another site that gives the U.S. total (now 4118) but no counter.
I appreciate your help.

I hope I'm completely wrong in sensing a conspiracy here. 'Come on, Bear, not everything is a conspiracy!'

Believe me, Bear, the thought crossed my mind. We'll see what develops.

good morning!

I tried again and still get the default page of the web host

I researched what that could mean
since it said they were either "not configured" or "not registered"

not configured could mean they are redesigning their page. not registered may mean they took themselves down or someone else came along trying to use the same domain name and now it's being battled out.

and of course it could mean they were taken down

I've tried finding other counters but none of them are very user friendly

I also discovered one counter that "can not be used on Myspace" - interesting - you can post naked teens but not soldier counts!?

then again didn't Murdoch buy Myspace?

Dianne, you are something else! Thank you for going to all that trouble. I actually followed pretty much the same path you did. With the same results of course.
Yes, it is interesting the choices "They" make as to what is or is not allowed. I will keep track of the count anyway, and no doubt mention it from time to time.
I can't remember where I had seen the counter originally - on whose blog.

That is odd ...

Avoid conspiracy theories .. tho I know that is what I would be thinking ... but Dianne is right .. sometimes a server error is really just a server error...

Hi Bobbie,
I'm glad that you continue to keep track of this horrific and criminal occupation. Every time I turn on the tv, I see the idiotic game shows showering millions onto participants, and I wonder if anyone else in the country is aware of the bloody horror being inflicted on others so far away.

I'm no conspiracy guy but ... Good luck Bobbie!

I don't like it that I immediately thought - conspiracy. I want to think that it's technical difficulties or reconfiguration.

I think it is just technical difficulties but makes you wonder doesn't it? Cape May Harbor is beautiful. I loved the pictures.

I don't know about you but I can hardly wait for Ole Tom to kick off the New SkyWatch! He is such a great guy to lead that task every week! Have a great week!

How can you not think conspiracy after these eight years of Bush and Cheney?

bobbie said...

what's today? - the 15th - 188 more days!

bobbie said...

Ooops, sorry. It's only the 14th. 187 days. Guess I was wishful thinking.

I made the counter... I also downsized the site now to handle the traffic -- so the only thing running on there now is the counter + hosting. That should take care of the downtime for a while to come. Sorry I let it go down a few times, it gets ~1 million views across the web every month.

Thank you, Anonymous. I have published a brief post today, Sept.17 letting my readers know, in fact publishing your comment.
