Shadow Shot Sunday #49
Shadow Shot Sunday is brought to us by Tracey, at her blog Hey Harriet, down under. Since Australia is in an entirely different time zone from the U.S., her Sunday is our Saturday. Confused? Not to worry. Just click on the link, relax, and enjoy.
My shadows today are not going to be sharp and clear. I saw them on a video screen. They are lovely, leafy shadows, falling over the nest of a bald eagle up in British Columbia, Canada. It is one of the live cams I like to monitor. I published the first photo on my blog last Tuesday. It shows two eggs in the center of the nest, and Mama Eagle off to the right. A few minutes later, Mama took off in search of food - or of Papa Eagle - or whatever. She did not return, and the shadows deepened as the evening approached.
The eggs remain in the nest. One of the adults returned the next morning, but I have checked a few times, and the eggs are often unattended. Very unusual.
If you choose to follow the live cam link above, you will be taken to a different nest. Go below it to "Other Cameras" to find this nest at Delta OWL. There are three different nest locations you can see, all in Canada. One already has three young. The other has two eggs still being tended.

Great shadows of the trees and leaves on the nest. I really enjoy following this post! I think it's very unusual too that "momma" isn't sitting on the eggs. Would think that they desperately need the warmth!
The shadows are wonderful, and what a clever idea to take them from the live cam. I worry about the eggs, though. I how they are still viable!
Great shadow shots! And how fun! It's been such fun watching the nests! Have a great weekend, Bobbie!
so cool!
Very interesting, we never see eagles except in the zoo. Cool shot :P
These are SOOOOO awesome!!!!
Thank you Bobbie. {{{{hugs}}}}
Thanks for that link. I guess the cameras are installed in a way that doesn't upset the eagles. They sure are beautiful.
Cools pics of the eggs.
I was just trying to figure out when the Hornby Island eagles' eggs might hatch. I got the email from my friend and posted about it on April 7th, and there were 2 eggs in the nest. Incubation takes about 35 days from the last egg laid, so that makes 18 days from the April 7, and who knows how many days old they already were. So if the eggs are healthy, we should have another 17 days to go at the very most, but easily could be less! Or is my math (not my strong suit) all wonky??
lovely patterns here... and yes how strange for eggs to remain unattended...
As Nature takes her ofttimes weary course, all we can do is watch and wonder...wonderful observation though...and of course, shadows!
Fabulous shadows of a great site...Hornby is a stunning place and the eagles there are just amazing.
getting to watch a bald eagle nest!! how cool is that!
Great idea to capture these shadows off film. specially liked the third shot. Looking forward to the chicks when they hatch :)
What beautiful pictures. THanks for sharing them, really interesting. Happy SSS.
lovely lovely shadows! There is something about birds nests that are just so wonderful & this one is even better because it has eggs we can see.
My shot won't be up until tomorrow. In fact I have to go find one!
It is nice to see the eggs. I hope they hatch and they live a long life.
Isn't it fascinating to watch the beginning of bird life? We have here in Brisbane a pair of falcons who make their nest on the roof of an inner city office block every year. It's become almost a national sport watching the live cam every Spring as they produce and raise their chicks in the middle of the city. Wonderful stuff.
Lovely melting pot/nest of shadows! Almost like the symbolic shadow of a mother's womb! Lovely!
Lovely project, the shadows.
Thanks for the birthday greetings! Sydney Daily Photo
Maybe they're camera shy? A great idea for SSS. I hope you get to see the eggs hatch.
Isn't this fun - great shadows....however we are worried about those poor eggs being unattended!!
Lovely shadow shots - hope those little eggs get tended to!
A fun & great shot! You think the mum egle like us to peep their home?
Happy SSS...
How exciting to watch the progress of the eggs!
I love how the shadows appear to gently cradle the eggs
Very 'kewl'... thanks for the info and the link to the live cam ;--)
Hugs and blessings,
Love your SSS photos! Thanks for stopping by to see mine!
Martha :-)
I sure hope they make it.
