My shadows today are not going to be sharp and clear. I saw them on a video screen. They are lovely, leafy shadows, falling over the nest of a bald eagle up in British Columbia, Canada. It is one of the live cams I like to monitor. I published the first photo on my blog last Tuesday. It shows two eggs in the center of the nest, and Mama Eagle off to the right. A few minutes later, Mama took off in search of food - or of Papa Eagle - or whatever. She did not return, and the shadows deepened as the evening approached.
The eggs remain in the nest. One of the adults returned the next morning, but I have checked a few times, and the eggs are often unattended. Very unusual.

Great shadows of the trees and leaves on the nest. I really enjoy following this post! I think it's very unusual too that "momma" isn't sitting on the eggs. Would think that they desperately need the warmth!
The shadows are wonderful, and what a clever idea to take them from the live cam. I worry about the eggs, though. I how they are still viable!

Thanks for that link. I guess the cameras are installed in a way that doesn't upset the eagles. They sure are beautiful.

I was just trying to figure out when the Hornby Island eagles' eggs might hatch. I got the email from my friend and posted about it on April 7th, and there were 2 eggs in the nest. Incubation takes about 35 days from the last egg laid, so that makes 18 days from the April 7, and who knows how many days old they already were. So if the eggs are healthy, we should have another 17 days to go at the very most, but easily could be less! Or is my math (not my strong suit) all wonky??

As Nature takes her ofttimes weary course, all we can do is watch and wonder...wonderful observation though...and of course, shadows!

It is nice to see the eggs. I hope they hatch and they live a long life.
Isn't it fascinating to watch the beginning of bird life? We have here in Brisbane a pair of falcons who make their nest on the roof of an inner city office block every year. It's become almost a national sport watching the live cam every Spring as they produce and raise their chicks in the middle of the city. Wonderful stuff.
