Domestic Violence

October is National Domestic Violence Month. Those of us who have been fortunate to have happy, loving marriages or relationships may tend to forget that there are others out there not so fortunate. I have known three women who have spent years in such circumstances.

I found the video below on the blog post by Gina, the Pagan Sphinx. If you take a moment to watch it, you will be contributing a dollar to a very good cause.

Needless to say it does not get any worse than domestic violence.

It is more than violence, for it strips the abused of dignity, and self worth.

Every attempt to fight domestic violence is worth the effort manifold.

I had a friend a long time ago who kept telling me how clumsy she was. She said she fell down the stairs and broke her leg and then another time that she'd walked into a door and gotten a black eye. She divorced her husband a couple of years later and told me the truth. It took her a long time to trust again but remarried happily to a great guy who waited patiently for her to heal mentally and emotionally from the abuse.

My alcholic husband never physically abused me or my older son but we both suffered from his verbal abuse. My daughter who is a recovering alcoholic has said she has learned to cope with the "neglect" she blames on me during her teenage years after her father left by being mean not only to me but to others. Did she learn this from her father or is this something to do with the "disease" alcoholism?
